Waste oil and fluids from vehicle depollution
Every car that comes into a breakers’ yard has to be drained before it’s dismantled or crushed. That leaves you with tanks and drums of engine oil, coolant, brake fluid and fuel, plus bins of used oil filters, and all of it has to go somewhere legal.
BL Oils is a Doncaster-based, Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier and dealer (CBDU69834). We collect depollution waste from car breakers, scrapyards, vehicle dismantlers and Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs) across Doncaster, all of Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
What we collect from breakers and ATFs
- Engine, gearbox and differential oil, plus transmission oil
- Hydraulic and power steering fluid, and shock absorber oil
- Used oil filters (oil filter disposal)
- Antifreeze and coolant
- Brake and clutch fluid
- Oily rags and wipes from the depollution bay
- Petrol and diesel drained from fuel tanks that can’t be reused (contaminated fuel collection)
- Interceptor waste from yard drainage (interceptor waste)
We collect liquids, filters and oily waste only. We don’t take vehicles, batteries, tyres, airbags or scrap metal, and we don’t collect cooking oil.

Depollution in plain English
A scrapped car is an end-of-life vehicle (ELV). GOV.UK guidance says ATFs must depollute every ELV, which means removing the battery, fuel, oils, liquids such as coolant and brake fluid, oil filters and other hazardous parts before the vehicle is dismantled or crushed. Until it’s depolluted, an ELV is treated as hazardous waste.
The fluids you drain are hazardous waste too. Environment Agency guidance asks for different types to be kept in separate, labelled containers in a bunded area, for example fuels, oils, water-based coolant and brake or clutch fluids, until they’re collected by someone authorised to take them. That’s where we come in. Your own permit sets out the exact rules for your site.
How collections work
- Bulk tanks: our tanker pumps out your waste oil tank on site
- Drums and IBCs: we collect coolant, brake fluid and other fluids kept separately
- Filters and rags: collected in lidded drums or bins on the same visit
- Regular or one-off: a schedule that matches how quickly your tanks fill, or a single clear-out
Please keep each fluid in its own container. Mixing oil with coolant, brake fluid or fuel makes it harder to deal with properly. See our guide on how to store waste oil.
Duty of care and paperwork
As the business producing the waste, you have a duty of care to make sure it goes to an authorised carrier. Every collection comes with a hazardous waste consignment note, and our registration, CBDU69834, can be checked on the Environment Agency’s public register. Read is waste oil hazardous waste? and consignment notes explained. Using one licensed carrier for all your depollution fluids keeps your waste management simple.
