Waste oil collection for crane hire and lifting firms
Cranes run on hydraulics. Mobile, crawler and tower cranes and lorry loaders all carry large volumes of hydraulic oil, alongside engine, gearbox and slew drive oils. Every service, oil change and repair leaves used oil, filters and greasy rags that have to be collected by a licensed carrier.
BL Oils is a Doncaster-based, Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier and dealer (CBDU69834). We collect waste oil from crane hire, lifting and lorry loader companies across all of Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
What we collect
- Hydraulic oil from boom, outrigger, luffing and lorry loader systems, including larger volumes from full system changes
- Engine oil from carriers, crawlers and power packs
- Gearbox, transmission, axle and slew drive oils, and winch gearbox oil
- Used oil filters and hydraulic filters (oil filter disposal)
- Greasy and oily rags from the workshop
- Interceptor waste from yard and wash bay drainage (interceptor waste)
We don’t collect cooking oil. For used cooking oil from kitchens and takeaways, please use a specialist cooking oil collector.

Collected with paperwork
We collect the oil, filters and rags and leave you a hazardous waste consignment note.

Depot collections
Most crane firms service their fleet at a depot or workshop, so that’s usually where we collect. Our tanker can pump out a bulk waste oil tank, and we collect drums, IBCs, filter bins and rag bins on the same visit, on a regular schedule or as a one-off.
On-site collections
Where safe access allows, we can also collect from a construction or project site, for example after an oil change on a crane that’s rigged on site. We’re happy to work with site inductions and site rules. Tell us about access for a tanker and any induction needed, and we’ll plan the visit with you.
Large hydraulic oil changes
A full hydraulic oil change on a large mobile or crawler crane can produce a lot of oil in one go. Let us know your plans and roughly how much oil to expect, and we’ll plan the collection around it.
Good storage between collections
- Keep waste oil in a bunded tank or sealed, labelled drums or IBCs
- Don’t mix oil with water, coolant, fuel or solvents
- Drain filters and keep them in a lidded container
- Keep greasy rags in a lidded metal bin
