Waste oil collection for garages and workshops
Every oil change, gearbox job and service leaves you with used oil and filters that have to go somewhere legal. BL Oils collects waste oil from independent garages, MOT centres, tyre and fast-fit centres, car breakers, vehicle workshops and dealership workshops across all of Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
Our garage waste oil collection takes the waste oil removal and disposal off your hands. We’re a Doncaster-based, Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier and dealer (CBDU69834). You deal with us direct, you get a free quote, and every collection comes with the correct paperwork.
What we collect from garages
- Used engine and motor oil from cars, vans, HGVs and motorbikes
- Gearbox, transmission and differential oil
- Hydraulic oil from ramps, lifts and workshop equipment
- Compressor oil
- Used oil filters, collected on the same visit (oil filter disposal)
- Oily water and silt from your forecourt or wash bay interceptor (interceptor waste)
- Antifreeze and coolant, brake fluid and oily rags, on the same visit (garage waste collection)
We collect from drums, IBCs, waste oil tanks and smaller containers. See the full list on our waste oil collection page.
We don’t collect cooking oil. For used cooking oil from kitchens and canteens, please use a specialist cooking oil collector.

Collected with paperwork
We collect the oil and leave you the correct paperwork for your records.

Keeping your workshop tidy and legal
- Use a dedicated waste oil tank or sealed drums with a drip tray or bund
- Keep waste oil away from drains and out of the rain
- Don’t mix oil with antifreeze, brake fluid, solvents or water
- Drain used filters and store them in a lidded container (see oil filter guide)
- Keep your waste paperwork, as you may be asked for it
- Store waste oil in sealed containers on a drip tray or in a bund (see how to store waste oil)
- Don’t burn waste oil in a workshop heater without a permit (see can you burn waste oil?)
Waste oil disposal and engine oil recycling
Used engine oil shouldn’t be wasted. After we collect it, we take it to a permitted facility where it’s recycled or recovered, so proper waste oil recycling starts with a simple collection from your workshop. For the rules, see waste oil disposal and our guide on how to dispose of engine oil.
Waste oil and used filters are hazardous waste. As the business that produces them, you have a duty of care to make sure they go to someone authorised to take them. Using a licensed carrier and keeping your paperwork is the simplest way to show you’ve done that.
Frequently asked questions
How often can you collect from my garage?
As often as you need. Some garages book a collection when their tank or drums are nearly full, others prefer a regular slot. Tell us how much oil you produce and we’ll work around you.
Do you take oil filters as well as oil?
Yes. We collect used oil filters alongside your waste oil, so it’s one visit and one set of paperwork. See oil filter disposal.
Can you empty our wash bay interceptor too?
Yes. We collect interceptor waste (oily water, oil and silt) from forecourts, wash bays and workshops. See interceptor waste.
How do I get a quote for my garage?
