Red diesel collected
Red diesel, or rebated gas oil, is still used by farms, some plant and machinery, and for heating. Like any diesel, it can pick up water, sludge and diesel bug when it’s stored for a long time. And since the rules changed in April 2022, many businesses are no longer allowed to use red diesel, so some are left with tanks or machines holding fuel they can’t use. Once red diesel is contaminated or can’t be used, it’s waste and needs collecting by a licensed carrier.

Can I use up my old red diesel?
That depends on what you use it for. HMRC sets the rules on who can use red diesel and what to do with fuel you’re no longer entitled to use. Check the current HMRC guidance, or ask your accountant or fuel supplier. If the fuel is contaminated, or you’ve decided it has to go, we can collect it as waste with the right paperwork.
What we don’t do
We collect the fuel. We don’t clean or treat fuel so it can be reused, or repair tanks. If you want the fuel tested or polished, speak to a fuel specialist first.
Storing diesel safely
- Keep tanks bunded and in good condition, with lids and caps closed
- Check for water at the bottom of the tank
- Don’t mix fuels, or fuel with waste oil
- Keep spill kits nearby and away from drains
