Port of Goole waste oil collection

Sludge, bilge water, slops and used oil collected from coasters, short-sea ships and inland craft at the Port of Goole, the closest Humber port to our Doncaster base.

Marine waste oil collection in Goole

Goole is often described as Britain’s most inland port. It sits on the River Ouse, about 50 miles from the North Sea, where the Aire & Calder Navigation meets the river. BL Oils is an approved contractor at the Port of Goole, and we collect sludge, bilge water, slops and used oil from the vessels that use it.

Goole is also the closest Humber port to our Doncaster base, just along the M18 and M62. We’re an Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier and dealer (CBDU69834).

What we collect at Goole

  • Sludge from fuel and lube oil cleaning (sludge and slops)
  • Bilge water and bilge oil (bilge and oily water)
  • Oily water and slops
  • Waste engine, gear and lube oil from maintenance
  • Used oil filters from engine rooms and workshops

Oily waste only. We don’t collect sewage, rubbish (garbage) or chemicals from ships, and we don’t collect cooking oil or galley waste. Your ship’s agent or the port can arrange those separately.

Coasters, short-sea ships and inland craft

Ships reach Goole up the Humber and the Ouse and enter the enclosed docks through a lock. The docks are mainly used by coasters and short-sea cargo ships carrying bulk and general cargo, which are smaller than the big vessels further down the estuary. The canal link means inland waterway craft use the port as well.

Smaller vessels usually mean smaller amounts of waste. That might be a small tank of bilge water rather than a full tanker load. We collect whatever the size of the job, pumping from the vessel into our tanker on the quay.

How a collection at Goole works

Most collections are booked through the ship’s agent. Here’s what normally happens.

  1. Tell us about the call

The ship’s agent, operator or port gives us the vessel name, port and berth, when it’s alongside, and the waste types and rough volumes.

  2. We plan it with you

We give you a free, no-obligation quote and agree the timing, access to the quay and any port security requirements.

  3. Pumped to our tanker on the quay

We pump the waste from the vessel straight into our road tanker, parked on the quay alongside.

  4. Paperwork handed over

You get a hazardous waste consignment note for every collection, showing what was collected and how much.

Booking a collection in Goole

Tell us the dock and berth, when the vessel is alongside and when it’s due to sail. Ships often time their passage up and down the river with the tide, so let us know the sailing time and we’ll plan the collection around it. For inland craft, tell us where the vessel is moored, as it needs to be alongside a quay our tanker can drive up to.

Ship to tanker on the quay

We collect by pumping the waste from the vessel straight into our road tanker, parked on the quay alongside. The vessel needs to be on a berth the tanker can drive up to, so tell us the berth early and we’ll check access with the agent.

See quayside tanker collection for what to arrange before we arrive.

Around Goole

We also collect from boatyards, marine engineers, hauliers and businesses around the port and the town, including Old Goole, Hook, Airmyn, Rawcliffe, Snaith, Howden and Thorne. For businesses further afield, see Selby, Doncaster and all of Yorkshire.

Paperwork

Every collection comes with a hazardous waste consignment note showing the waste type, quantity and waste code. The ship can use these details for its Oil Record Book. Our registration, CBDU69834, can be checked on the Environment Agency’s public register. See compliance & licence.
