Port of Immingham waste oil collection

Sludge, bilge water, slops and used oil collected from bulk carriers, tankers, ro-ro and container ships at the Port of Immingham, with larger volumes planned in advance.

Marine waste oil collection in Immingham

Immingham, on the south bank of the Humber, is one of the UK’s largest ports by cargo tonnage. It handles bulk carriers, tankers, ro-ro ferries and container ships, both in an enclosed dock and at deep-water jetties and terminals out on the river. BL Oils is an approved contractor at the Port of Immingham, and we collect sludge, bilge water, slops and used oil from vessels across the port.

We’re a Doncaster-based, Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier and dealer (CBDU69834). We reach Immingham along the M18, M180 and A180.

What we collect at Immingham

  • Sludge from fuel and lube oil cleaning (sludge and slops)
  • Bilge water and bilge oil (bilge and oily water)
  • Oily water and slops
  • Waste engine, gear and lube oil from maintenance
  • Used oil filters from engine rooms and workshops

Oily waste only. We don’t collect sewage, rubbish (garbage) or chemicals from ships, and we don’t collect cooking oil or galley waste. Your ship’s agent or the port can arrange those separately.

Big ships, bigger volumes

Immingham’s deep water means it takes some of the largest ships on the Humber, from bulk carriers at the river terminals to tankers at the oil and gas jetties. Large vessels can land a lot of sludge and slops in one go, sometimes more than a single tanker load. The earlier you tell us the volumes, the better we can plan.

The port also has regular ro-ro and container services to Northern Europe and Scandinavia. Those vessels keep tight schedules, so we plan collections around the time they’re alongside.

How a collection at Immingham works

Most collections are booked through the ship’s agent. Here’s what normally happens.

  1. Tell us about the call

The ship’s agent, operator or port gives us the vessel name, port and berth, when it’s alongside, and the waste types and rough volumes.

  2. We plan it with you

We give you a free, no-obligation quote and agree the timing, access to the quay and any port security requirements.

  3. Pumped to our tanker on the quay

We pump the waste from the vessel straight into our road tanker, parked on the quay alongside.

  4. Paperwork handed over

You get a hazardous waste consignment note for every collection, showing what was collected and how much.

Booking a collection in Immingham

Tell us whether the vessel is in the enclosed dock or at one of the river jetties or terminals, and the berth. Let us know when it’s alongside, when it sails, and the waste types and rough volumes, especially for large amounts of sludge and slops. Port security rules apply across the estate, so give us the agent’s details and any access requirements.

Ship to tanker on the quay

We collect by pumping the waste from the vessel straight into our road tanker, parked on the quay alongside. The vessel needs to be on a berth the tanker can drive up to, so tell us the berth early and we’ll check access with the agent.

See quayside tanker collection for what to arrange before we arrive.

Around Immingham

We also collect from businesses around the port and along the south bank, including Stallingborough, Habrough, Healing, Keelby and Grimsby. The area is home to a lot of heavy industry, logistics and energy sites; see commercial and industrial waste oil collection. Nearby area pages: Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Lincolnshire.

Paperwork

Every collection comes with a hazardous waste consignment note showing the waste type, quantity and waste code. The ship can use these details for its Oil Record Book. Our registration, CBDU69834, can be checked on the Environment Agency’s public register. See compliance & licence.
